The Semily course has been on the map of the Czech Republic since 1970 where a group of enthusiasts decided to play golf in this “remote” nook of the country. And that the time was not well-disposed towards golf? No problem. The place was not suitable for any agricultural use and, therefore the course could be created. The access was so complicated that only passing the original rope bridge brought the golfers much adrenaline before their first hits.
Nowadays it is a very beautiful “peninsula” surrounded by river Jizera which is worth playing here. There is a unique atmosphere and perfectly maintained course. And it is up and down hills. Moreover, you will play over the river twice and if you do not realize how the water flows, your senses will confuse you and you would not play straight. And how were the holes named? The local golfers are jokers.
E.g. Komínka is because you play up the hill to green reminding a saddle behind which the top of a factory smokestack can be seen. And Festivalka got its name easily, too. At first hits from the “diving board”, which is a tee created in a wood high above the fairway, the golfers were hitting to all free sides. One of them said ? it is a festival of hits. And there was the name. This is Semily.
And there is another uniqueness which this course will have forever. Right spikes will never be forbidden here which you can understand when you play here after rain.
The course has survived all the years of disfavour and now it is a rare pearl. You have to play accurately and deliberately here. This proves the fact that many excellent golfers have grown here and they have represented and still represent not only their mother Semily Golf Club but also the Czech Republic. This course is recommended.
